Did anyone see the HUNDREDS of hearts downtown this morning? Just wondering if I was seeing the things because they are all gone? Anyone, Anyone?

Also In Maine today this ::

NOTHING CAN STOP “THEM.” Not bad weather, snow, ice. Not a parking ban. Nay! Not even a state of emergency could keep the “Valentine Bandit” (or bandits) from tagging downtown Portland with a little bit o’ love this Valentine’s Day.

It’s been a tradition for years now. Portland wakes up on Valentine’s Day to big red hearts pasted all over the city. Police say Munjoy Hill was hit hardest this year, with the signature taped to doors and windows all over the place. And flapping proudly in the wind at the Portland Fire Department’s Central Station is a red-heart flag, the bandits’ most tricky trick.

This year, they even got the Portland Police Department and officer Raymond Rube saw them. Two girls approached the station as he walked in during the night. He saw them put something on the door. “Hey,” he called. And the girls ran off.

When Officer Rube looked, there was a heart on the door and a smile on his face.

“And he wasn’t going to chase them,” said the information officer at the Portland Police Department this morning.

True, the state is limping along after yesterday’s storm. But there is some love in the air this Valentine’s Day. Take heart, Portlanders.

Take as many as you want.
