Help Pets in Need with Black Dog Salvage!
Black Dog Salvage is now a permanent pet food donation site for the Roanoke Valley SPCA.
To kick off the food drive, customers will receive 25 percent off all Black Dog Salvage merchandise with the donation of dog or cat food (6 cans or an 8 lb bag or larger) now through April 30, 2009.
Donated dry dog and cat food will go to help the PET (Pets Eat Too) Program, which supplies the Manna Ministries food pantry and Meals on Wheels. Providing food to these organizations prevents family pets from ending up in shelters and allows them to remain in their loving homes.
About the PET (Pets Eat Too) Program
The RVSPCA has partnered with the local office on aging since January, 2006 to provide food for the pets of recipients of Meals on Wheels. It was discovered that many shut-ins and senior citizens were sharing their protein-rich meals with their pets. This was an unhealthy situation for both pet and owner.
The PET program expanded in April, 2008, when the RVSPCA began providing pet food to Manna Ministries, operators of the Carpenter’s Foundation food pantry for the working poor.
Between the two organizations, the RVSPCA is delivering approximately 40,000 pounds of pet food annually. With the downturn in the economy, this need is expected to grow.
About Black Dog Salvage
Reclaiming, Renewing, Redefining Architectural Salvage for a Sustainable Future.
Black Dog Salvage was created in 1999 to provide a home for Southwestern Virginia’s architectural past. The brainchild of entrepreneurs Mike Whiteside and Robert Kulp, Jr. and inspired by Black Dog’s namesake, Molly (a black lab), the company found its beginnings with the salvage of some of Roanoke Virginia’s most notable architectural details at 21 Highland Avenue. Since that time, Black Dog has become the temporary resting place for architectural antiques, commercial salvage, and modern society’s other cast offs. In addition, Black Dog Salvage has created the Memorial Bridge Marketplace, located inside the warehouse, offering unique home & garden accessories from a select group of vendors and local artisans.
Sally, the Salvage Dog, is always eager to assist customers while they journey 40,000 square feet of treasures. Dealers, home renovators, sentimentalists, and the generally curious are encouraged to visit the warehouse located at 902 13th Street SW in Roanoke at the Memorial Bridge and online at www.blackdogsalvage.com. Open Monday – Saturday from 9am-5pm.
