Roanoke Tattoo Festival: Artist Profile #6

myScoper.com proudly announces the upcoming and radically monumental Roanoke Tattoo Festival coming this Mother’s Day weekend at The Hotel Roanoke. The Tattoo Fashion Show at the Taubman earlier this year gave us a taste of the local flavor but this new festival promises to bring internationally acclaimed body artists to Roanoke, VA. May 8-10 will be chock full of tattoos, body art demos, competition, live music, and burlesque! Each week leading up to the festival we will profile one of the featured tattoo artists that will appear at this year’s festivities. So if you’re thinking about a tattoo, now is definitely the time. The world of body art will be descending on Roanoke early May! For more information about the festival: click here! Also, for vendors and businesses, they’re still looking for booths and sponsors, so contact the organizers at this link if you’re interested!

ARTIST PROFILE #6

Pat Sinatra (Kingston, New York)

She’s one of a handful of women who began tattooing in the 1970s, long before tattooing was as popular as it is today. According to Pat it was a struggle then to even acquire information and/or equipment, especially if you were a woman. There were no tattoo magazines, Yellow Pages listings, suppliers or any worthwhile reference materials. It was ideal if you were a guy, got tattooed locally and hung around the tattoo parlor regularly to acquire any information. It was back then that Pat learned respect for the craft from noted “old-timers” who paved the way for her. She now passes down the same respect of the traditions of tattooing to her apprentices.

Pat’s background in fine and graphic arts was helpful in achieving her notably good, clean work. Her attitude was and remains today to provide custom, one-of-a-kind tattoos at the client’s request without inserting her own ego in the process. Although her concerns for placement and composition continue to support her longevity in the tattoo business. After 30 years, she tattoos regularly at her shop, Pat’s Tats, and attends conventions like the Roanoke Tattoo Festival in May. In addition to decorative tattooing, Pat also does eyebrows, eyeliner, and nipple reconstruction. She is an expert at repair and rework. “No job is impossible to fix!”
