Over the last decade, the term ‘craft’ has taken a decidedly edgier turn away from the expected macramé and needlepoint of the past. A new generation has emerged to take the reins of mediums such as crochet, jewelry, and other craftwork and push them to their limits.

At CraftStar Bazaar, attendees will see examples of this firsthand in creations from their own neighbors from the Roanoke and New River Valley. The term “not your grandma’s craft show” is overused but it is unlikely that many craft shows nearby have booths showcasing pastries and pasties side by side! Shoppers will also be able to pick-up everything from handmade BBQ sauce to pin-up girl calendars to silkscreened onesies.

The addition of green and recycling influences applied to the recognizable and tactile gives these handmade items an edge over big box stores. Each item is unique – a rare occurrence in a shopping experience today. In the age of musical mash-ups, re-purposing and reusing, and the infiltration of technology in our lives, the line between high and low art continues to blur and these artists prove that sometimes the knitting needle is mightier than the sword.

Detter Designs

Hand cut stencil and  printed silk screened onesies and t-shirts such as vicious, rotten, stink-bomb, and more. you won’t be able to resist the cuteness. Detter Designs is located in Frankin County, Virginia.

RutheBeth and SockEye Guys

One of a kind Ruthebeth illustrations, fantastical sockeye guys, and a variety of handcrafted accessories and whimsy! Crafter, Pam Rhodes is the talent behind this menagerie of imaginary beings come to life!

Pear and Peacock

Modern handcrafted jewelry, elegant and delicate, you won’t believe the quality for the price. Pear and Peacock craft necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings using eco-friendly materials and processes as well as recycled materials for packaging!

Franki and Pretty Pistols

Pin-up photography, accessories & clothing. Vintage boxes and purses re-purposed and updated. Inspired by classic bombshells of the 1940s-50s & spliced with leopard print, fishnets, stilettos, pencil skirts, polkadots, stripes and fun-fur!

Wild Earth Hoops

Custom made hoola hoops and handcrafted books. Hoola hoops are amazing, custom sizes with custom tape in amazing patterns. Becca Obert is a certified hoop instructor located in Blacksburg, VA.

Cutie Pie Pastries

Pasties, pastries (cupcakes, baby pies, cookies, baklava, etc.) Local baker, Sarah Burch creates delectable vegan goodies-nom, nom, nom! Sarah is also hand-crafting some adorable pasties, that’s right ladies, pasties!

Back Creek Hats

Felted hats made from completely recycled wool and cashmere with vintage buttons. Local Crafter Hope Hollingsworth has a gift for giving new life and purpose to recycled materials.

Kit’s Knits

Hats, scarves, doll clothes, christmas stockings, blankets, glass magnets and Star City Vicious + Star Bomb Key Rings. Mountain Biking Genius, Laura White doesn’t  buy her pink skulls  and crossbones she rocks out on the course, nope, she knits her own.

Miss Chief Productions

Magnets, buttons, paper, and vintage…miss chief are the button experts. spice up your old wardrobe with these little goodies, buy one or buy them all…these ladies have a wry sense of humor that will haunt you back for more!

Bad Eye Deer + Philosophy Inc.

Have merged companies and will be selling investments stocks, stickers, posters and sounveniers. this sounds strange until you meet the men behind the madness…and yes…these are fake companies-that is what we love!

Allie Hasson Photography

Allie Hasson produces archival pigment prints mounted on barnwood frames. Her photographs invite the viewer to explore the detail in life through nuanced attention to color, composition and scale. Betcha you’ll want one if you see one!

Keirin Culture Bicycles

Custom designed and screen printed t-shirts and swag available. These designs are cool and want to live on your body. Need a custom commuter, fixie or racing bike? Then Stratton Delaney of Keirin Culture Bikes is the man to talk to!
